We take new ideas for working with trauma from the international EMDR conference in Oslo
The professional team at NEO Center has long been dedicated to developing therapeutic approaches that can help clients work with challenging life experiences, trauma, and long-term psychological stress. Part of this development also includes participation in professional conferences and educational events abroad.
PhDr. Kateřina Marklová, professional director of the NEO Center, clinical psychologist and psychotherapist, participated in the international EMDR conference in Oslo. The program offered lectures and workshops by experts from various countries who are dedicated to the use of EMDR in therapeutic practice, in working with trauma and in contexts of increased psychological stress.
EMDR in individual and group work
One of the important topics of the conference was the use of EMDR in group therapy. Foreign experts presented their experiences with working in groups, which can be a suitable form of support for clients with traumatic experiences. For NEO Centrum, this topic is also inspiring with regard to the development of outpatient care and the possible future expansion of the therapeutic offer.
Group work with trauma requires a safe framework, clear structure, and sensitive leadership. It is not only about sharing difficult experiences, but above all about gradually supporting stabilization, understanding one's own reactions, and working on integrating traumatic experiences in a way that respects the pace of each client.
Complex trauma and new therapeutic approaches
The conference also focused on working with clients who develop psychological problems as a result of long-term or repeated stress. The topic of complex trauma, which requires a sensitive, long-term and well-structured therapeutic approach, is increasingly being discussed in the professional environment.
This knowledge is important for the practice of the NEO Center, especially because many clients do not come with just one isolated problem. Their difficulties are often related to a broader life context, relationships, long-term stress, addictive behavior, or experiences that have affected their sense of safety and trust.
Practical experience from crisis and war areas
The part of the program focused on working with clients in acute stress environments, including the experience of professionals who work directly in war zones, was also very beneficial. These approaches provide practical tools for stabilization, working with the nervous system, and supporting people who find themselves in challenging or threatening situations.
Although every therapeutic context is different, similar experiences can be valuable inspiration for working with clients who are going through a crisis, experiencing severe anxiety, the aftermath of trauma, or long-term psychological discomfort.
Professional development as part of care
Participation in the international conference is another step for the NEO Center in the ongoing development of professional care. New knowledge, experiences and materials from the conference will be further used within the internal sharing and professional work of the team.
Our goal is to offer clients care that is professionally anchored, safe and sensitive to their individual needs. Working with trauma and psychological burden is a process that requires time, trust and respect for the personal pace of each person. This is why we consider ongoing education and sharing international experiences to be an important part of quality therapeutic care.
EMDR at the NEO Center
EMDR is one of the therapeutic approaches that can be used when working with traumatic experiences and their impacts on psychological experience. At NEO Center, we see it as part of a broader therapeutic framework that includes an individual assessment of the client's needs, a safe therapeutic relationship, and a comprehensive view of the person in their bio-psycho-socio-spiritual context.
Every client comes with a different story. That's why it's important to choose a care method that matches their current situation, possibilities, and readiness to work on change.
